Swimming
and Aqua Fit
Are you a swimmer? Were you disappointed when free swimming for the over-60s was discontinued? If so then we have some GOOD NEWS!
We have arranged with Crewe Swimming Pool (Flag Lane) for U3A members to be able to swim for just £1.50 each Monday between 3pm and 5pm. This arrangement will start from 9th May – just show your U3A membership card at the pool reception to get your discounted swim.
We are also exploring the possibility of an Aqua Fit session for U3A members. It is likely to take some time to work out arrangements for this but, if you would be interested in joining an Aqua Fit group, please let me know. The group would of course need a leader to liaise with Crewe Swimming Pool but this would be little more than keeping a register – all of the money side of things would be managed by the pool staff. If you could be interested in helping lead such a group, then I’m waiting to hear from you!!

THE
ALSAGER U3A LIGHT ORCHESTRA
It was over 6 years ago when the germ of an idea for an orchestra within the U3A was first conceived. An embryo group of 8 people met in February 2005 and has grown into an orchestra of 30 regulars.
One aim is to encourage "lapsed" musicians to start playing again and another aim is to have a lot of fun, both of which have been achieved. As well as Alsager, our players come from the Crewe and Nantwich area, as well as Congleton. A modest standard of reading music is essential, as we play from arrangements, but no-one is critical and our Conductor and Organiser, Bill Freeman is always helpful. We mainly play popular music from the shows and films.
We rehearse weekly on a Tuesday afternoon from 2 - 4pm at The United Reformed Church in central Alsager. We finish for the summer break at the end of May and restart on September 6th. The highlight of our year is an annual concert in Alsager Civic Hall which is a very popular local "Spring Proms" and is a sell-out event, this year raising over £2800 for St Luke's Hospice.
Some instruments are well subscribed, but currently we particularly need a drummer and there are also vacancies for flutes, oboes, bassoons, violins, violas, trumpets and trombones. So if you are a musician, why not get in touch with Bill on 01270 747848 to discuss possibly joining the Orchestra.
You can visit the Alsager U3A website at www.AlsagerU3A.org.uk.
